Abstract

|
The purpose of this study was to investigate the experiences of pain and the types of pain of middleaged women;and to identify the complains of hysical; emotional;
psychosocial health problems by age.
This study s subjects included 610 women in Taegu City whose age were between 40 and 59 years old. The instrument used in this study was the Beck Depression Inventory(BDI);developed by Beck(1978) and translated into Korean by Lee(1981);and the Ego Identity Scale developed by Suh(1975) and modified by Nam(1975). The data were analysed by using SAS program which included Frequency;Percentage;x¢¥ test; ANOVA;
Tukey test;Pearson correlation and Spearman correlation.
The conclusion obtained from this study were as follows:
There were significant differences of experience of pain by age. Types of pain were: the general pain and the abdominal pain which were dominant between 40 and 46 years old;the back pain between 47 and 53;the general pain and the arthritis between 54 and 59.
And the level of the depression of all three groups were higher than the normal score so there was a significant difference by age(p=0.0031). There were significant differences in the supports of spouse(p=0.003) and the ego identity (p=0.0445) by age.
Pain experience were positive correlation with depression whose age were between 47 and 53 years old(r=0.224;p=0.0315). Therefore;the pain experienced group had a more depression than the non-experienced.
